REACH more researching couples with your Instagram content

Why your Instagram content isn't reaching more couples researching their weddings and exactly what to do about it

If you have been showing up on Instagram consistently and still feel like nobody is seeing your content, I want to be really honest with you about why that might be happening. Because it is rarely just one thing.

It is usually a handful of smaller things that are quietly working against you. So here is what I would look at first.

Your hook is not strong enough

You have one, maybe two seconds, at a push, to stop someone scrolling. That is it. So the cover of your carousel, the first words spoken in a reel, or the first words seen on your reel needs to do one job and do it brilliantly.

Make them stop.

But the hook does not just live at the start.

On a carousel, slide two will be shown to your same audience again later that day or the next time they open the app. Instagram essentially gives your carousel a second chance to get seen, which means slide two needs to work just as hard as slide one. Give it enough context that someone knows what the carousel is about even if they missed it the first time.

And do not forget the caption hook either. A short line at the end of your first sentence that teases what is coming. Like, "you are really going to want to know this" or "read on". This is a tiny tweak that makes a real difference to how many scrollers actually read what you have written.

You are not showing your face

This one is non-negotiable. Brands that show the business owner receive around 40% more engagement and 32% more comments than those that don't. And beyond the statistics, in the wedding industry, couples are not just hiring your expertise. They are hiring your vibe, your energy, your personality, the way you make them feel.

Think about it this way. Your website tells people everything about your business. A face to face meeting or a discovery call lets them experience you in person. Instagram is the bridge between those two things.

It is where you get to show what you say on your website but with personality, energy and realness. And you can only do that if you actually show up in your content.

You are not using keywords

Couples use Instagram like a search engine. They are typing in "relaxed wedding photographer in Devon" or "sustainable florist Bristol" and seeing who comes up.

If your captions, name field in your profile, and on-screen text are not using the specific words your ideal couple would search for, you are invisible in those results.

It goes further than Instagram too. Your content indexes on Google. Which means a well-keyworded caption can show up in a Google search result. Keep your keywords near the top of your caption (the algorithm scans from the top down) and be as specific as possible about what you do and where you do it.

You are not adding music to carousels

This is a small thing that makes a real difference. Adding music to a carousel tells the algorithm the content is worth pushing further. Do it every time. And on reels, use a trending audio where you can. Trending audio will not rescue weak content but it will help strong content reach more people.

Your carousels are too long

Five to ten slides is the sweet spot. People have short attention spans and a twenty slide carousel is going to lose most people before they get halfway through. Getting people to the end matters. Completing a carousel is a strong signal to Instagram to distribute it further.

Keep slides tight, keep the pace moving, and use a little teaser at the end of each slide to pull people onto the next one.

You are not using closed captions on reels

Around 80% of people watch Instagram with no audio. If someone comes across your talking head reel while they are sitting in silence and there are no captions, they will scroll straight past. Closed captions are not optional. They are how most people will actually consume your video content.

You are not engaging with other accounts

Reach is not just about what you post. It is about the relationships you build. Go into other people's worlds. Leave genuine comments. Show up consistently in the feeds of the people you want to be in front of. When you show up in someone else's world they are far more likely to show up in yours... and that ripple effect builds reach over time in a way that no algorithm hack ever will.

And finally, find collaborations

In the wedding industry collaborations are everything.

A tag from another supplier, a joint reel, a shared post... all of it puts you in front of a brand new audience of people who are already in the wedding world. But here is the thing. People only want to collaborate with accounts that are showing up well. Which is the best reason of all to keep doing all of the above.

TLDR

Your content is not reaching enough people because of a handful of fixable things.

  • Use a strong hook (and a second hook on slide two of your carousel).

  • Show your face.

  • Use keywords throughout your content and bio.

  • Add music to carousels and trending audios to reels.

  • Keep carousels to five to ten slides.

  • Add closed captions to talking head reels.

  • Engage with other accounts.

  • And pursue collaborations.
